I loaded oracle XE in a virtual box with a linux os. I will want to in stall APEX into that. I am now trying to call sqlplus and get the following message:
sp1<lang>.msb not found
error 6 initializing sqlplus
message file .msb not found
sp2-0750 you may need to set Oracle_home to your oracle software directory
ls: /sqlplus/mesg/: Non such file of directory

Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

What did you not understand from the message?:
sp1<lang>.msb not found
error 6 initializing sqlplus
message file .msb not found
[red]sp2-0750 you may need to set Oracle_home to your oracle software directory[/red]
ls: /sqlplus/mesg/: Non such file of directory

oracle home is set in the oracle_env.csh executable
ORACLE HOME=/usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server

But is it exported? What happens when you issue an 'echo $ORACLE_HOME' ?

I only recieved the prompt back so now I need to figure out what it is set to and set it differently if neccessary.

Cretin,

If your oracle_env.csh literally contains ORACLE HOME, then you must change it to ORACLE_HOME.

Let us know if this is an issue.

Good spot, Dave!

One of my teammates thinks I have to do an export of Oracle home, I will look in to that and let you know.

Cretin

My apologies ken did ask earlier if it was exported, that is what I will look into.

Also, don't forget Santa's advice re making sure you are specifying ORACLE_HOME rather than ORACLE HOME.
