Fellow Programmers:
MS Access is throwing an error when I attempt to run a report from a VBA interface in an Access application. The text is a familiar one ("maccess.exe.has generated errors and will be closed by windows. you will need to restart the program. an error log is being created.").

The caviat to this is that when I break into the VB environment (ALT+F11) and immediately close back out, I am able to run the report without issue.

Has anyone experienced this before? More importantly, does anyone know of a fix or workaround?

Your help is much appreciated -

The type of error you describe is not an Access error, it is a GPF error originating from Windows. You have a Service Pack, corrupt database, or bad Office or Windows OS installation issue. If your editor is acting weird, you could also have a virus. Scan for viruses, apply latest service packs for your version, compact/repair your databases. Try it.

If it still blows up, re-install Office, apply all the latest SP's.

If it still blows up, re-install Windows/Office, apply all the latest SP's.

I had some report problems with my database when I converted from access 97 to access 2000. Turned out some of the field names I had ('date', 'name', and 'type') were reserved words and caused me frequent, but not 100% reproducible, fatal errors when generating reports using those field names. Maybe you have something similar going on?

Have you explored the following:

1. Compact/Repair current database.

2. Import all database objects into a new blank access database.

3. Decompile/Recompile database.

You can find extensive posts on all of these topics in this forum.

As always, have backups before doing anything. Good Luck.
