MSAccess 2000 ---> DDE --> Excel

I am attempting to open directly an Excel spreadsheet and retrieve data from various cells (one at a time) in the spreadsheet using DDE.

Linking as a table causes problems with data types and cells containing more than 255 characters. I would like to try DDE.

I have been able to initiate a conversation, open a spreadsheet, select a cell.

I have not been able to retrieve the data in the cell.

Help please
