MS Word image issues...

I have downloaded a template from Word to use and when I place a new image, it won't let me move the image. Is there any particular reason? It will let me resize and renders perfectly but will just not let me move the image to the location I would like.

Also, when I added a text box on top of a grey area, the text box has appeared with a white background. I tried to change the "shading" to no color or to a shade of grey but nothing looks right. Is there a way to remove the background from the text so the original background shows through? Thank you for your help.

If you can't tell I am not overly familiar with creating these types of documents in Word and all help will be greatly appreciated!

If you placed an image and it does not move freely, then it was inserted as an InlineShape. This is done with Insert > Picture. These are, as the name implies, inline. They are in line with the text of that paragraph.

Shapes can be freely moved. They anchored to a paragraph, but not only can the image itself be moved freely, but the anchor itself can be moved.

As for: "when I added a text box on top of a grey area", it is hard to say, as I do not really know what you mean by "grey area".

the grey area was in reference to the background. the template came with some background elements already in place that I do not wish to change. I was hoping I could remove the bounding box and the white background color to have the original background show up underneath my text. Thanks for your help! I appreciate it!

After inserting the image, place your cursor over the image and right click. A shortcut menu appears. Click the Compress button at the lower left of the Picture tab. Click the Layout tab. Click the Advanced button on the lower right. Uncheck Move Object With Text near the bottom in the Options section. Click OK then OK. You can now move the image anywhere. Word of caution; move or resize in small increments until the desired size and place is reached. If you grab a corner handle of a large image and reduce the size all at once the image may move quickly to anywhere in the document or disappear when you release the handle. If that happens, click the redo button on the menu toolbar or on the Edit menu to the right of File. The image will return to it's original size and location and you can work on it again.
