I have a user who deleted files from his system through "my documents" but the file names still show up when he opens the "file" pull down menu within MS Word 97. We know the files have been removed from the system but for some reason their listing bothers him. He opens up the "file" pull down and calls me to have their listing removed.

Any one know how I can get this done? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

If you would like to "flush" the recently used file list in MS Word, go to Tools/Options and click on the "General" tab.
There is a check box for "Recently used file list".
You can turn this feature off completely (by un-checking the box) or change the number from it's default of "4" to "0" and apply.
Simply make the number 4 again and your recently used files will be flushed and your used file history will start over.
