MS Word 97 Auto Formatting

Is there a way to turn off Microsoft's automatic formatting? When I use tab to set up indents it always wants to second guess my next move. I am forever undoing Microsofts guesses on my next few lines of text. Also how can I turn off a line automatically going to bold when I am trying to make a simple form?

This is frustrating and I am sure there is a simple answer that I have not found yet. Any suggestions beyond different software would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello,

To turn off this annoying feature do the following:
"Tools" select "AutoCorrect" then choose the "AutoFormat as you Type" and "Autoformat" tabs and remove the offending check marks.

Hopefully this will solve your problems.
