We have a phd dissertation with tables on landscape oriented pages. The page numbers on each of these landscape pages need to have the number in portraait style so that when the paper is printed and the page is rotated the page number appear on the bottom. Which, I believe, means we have to find a way to get the page number into the left margin of the page in our current view.

Have consulted instructions found on line with no success. Having sort of a crisis. Several people have tried and cannot figure out.

Thanks.

Place the cursor within the page, in the Insert tab, select Page Number | Page Margins and find the style that will give you the closest position to where you need it - say Accent Bar Left.

This should result in a selectable text-box, which when selected, you can change the Text Direction through the button in the Text group at the left of the Format tab of TextBox Tools.

You can change the size, and position of the textbox by drag-n-drop.

Should you need more/other information, then while the cursor is inside the textbox, select Field from the Quick-parts button, which is located in the Insert tab (Text group). There, for instance Page, NumPages, FileName etc should be available.
