I can't spell check a document in Word 2007 (brand new installation). There is no SET LANGUAGE in the review ribbon.

I've searched this on the 'net and it seems to be a common problem, but so far no one's had a good solution.

Let me know if you need further info. Thank you for your time.

Thanks, Randy. I found the set language on the tab when I pressed ALT+r+u.

Word 2003 stopped spell checking so I installed 2007 on the machine. It doesn't spell check.

Here are a couple of things I tried that didn't work:

Being unable to find things on the Ribbon is a common problem :-( but all the old shortcut keys (Alt+T,L,L for this) still work.

It is not normal for Word to just stop spellchecking. Assuming your installation is not corrupt, something must be stopping it! My first couple of guesses would be that you have your text marked as being in a language for which you don't have proofing tools installed (unlikely as you clearly know about language settings) or that you have your text marked as "do not check spelling and grammar" (perhaps this got set, somehow, in your normal template).

The links you give point to fixes for some kind of corruption. As 2007 is a new install, I wouldn't expect them to be needed. What exactly happens when you try to spellcheck a document?

Enjoy,
Tony

Thank, Tony. I'm not sure what's happening. If I spell check the same document on a different machine, there's no problem. Believe me when I say that I've checked every possible answer.

I appreciate your time.

Like me if you do not like the ribbon, you can change back to the clasic menus. I had a similar problem except it came from Vista ultimate not install any Languages on the Image that was delivered from the mauufacture.

Never give up never give in.

There are no short cuts to anything worth doing :)
