MS Word 2002 bold & underlining problem 2

Hi all,
I have a customer that has a strange problem with Word 2002. When she highlights a section of text to bold it bolds all the text except the highlighted text and the same happens with underlining. I have run a repair of office that didn’t help. I ran a virus scan and removed ad-ware and spy-ware, still same issue. Customer is running XP on gx270. I have checked the autocorrect option under tools-autocorrect bold and italic with real formatting as advised by ms in both places no luck.

Format-Style, Normal.
Modify it.

Uncheck "automatically update"
