Individuals in my office have been seeing an odd issue with Word/Outlook 2007. When text is highlighted and deleted, sometimes text on a subsequent line will disappear from view. When the users thinks "oh, I messed up and deleted too much" and then retypes the text, the "hidden" text will often reappear leaving the user with 2 identical lines of text. We format a large number of documents and this is driving people absolutely nuts.

What could be causing text to hide from view and then reappear? I know this sometimes occurs at the end of a page (text will disspear from the bottom of a page and appear on the next page) - but this is happening with short e-mail msgs and one-page documents (as well as longer ones.)

I've been googling for answers for a day and 1/2. Any ideas?

Thanks!

You could be copying hidden text? try going into Word options (click on the Office button) and check the "show hidden text" box in the display tab. See what's there before you copy.
If there is hidden text, maybe you can track down the source and eliminate it (in a humane way).

If quizzes are quizzical, what are tests?

Since it's happening in both Word and Outlook, perhaps it just a video issue. The next time it happens, try the following:

1. Hit F5 and see if a screen refresh kicks it back in
2. Minimize and maximize the screen
3. Click UNDO and see if the missing text comes back with the highlighted text

One of these should get the wanted text back. If the solution was 1 or 2, I'd suspect something like the video driver or perhaps the font used. If 3 get's it back, I'd look at things like AutoText, AutoFormat and/or Overwrite settings in Word.

To try to minimize the issue, set Outlook to NOT USE Word as its editor. That should at least limit the issue to Word. Hope this helps.

Sorry about that. Still pretty new to 2007. What about if you switch the message format from HTML to plain text? That should reduce the chances of a formattng issue causing the problem.

Yet another reason for NOT upgrading.
