Ok here's the problem:

Router
-
-
Belkin 10 Port Gigabit Switch-------Adv Server w/db
-
-
Computers

Thats the simple setup we have at this office now we have another office with the same setup we made the server here public to be able to connect from our other site to be able to access the data and maybe perhaps be able to map a network drive or somehow have access to the DB that is on our server on this site unfortunately not having any luck, tried using VPN but it's not working. What else can I try or anyone have any ideas on how I should proceed? I hit a stumbling block. With VPN sometimes it establishes a connection but then the computer that was setup to connect loses internet connectivity and when I set it up so that the VPN is not the default connection the VPN doesnt work. Any clues or tips on how to set it up so that we can access our DB from any site would be extremely useful. Thank you, we don't want to use remote desktop connection since that doesn't allow multiple users at the other site to access the data.

Sorry it took so long for me to reply, using basically, WinXP Pro VPN(client) to a router VPN(NetopiaR7100)which goes through the Server which is Advanced Server 2000 I was successful on establishing the connection but now I am trying to troubleshoot a problem where the connection is established but none of the work networked computers are viewable...

omg, after much deliberation and contiplation, I have found out that even though the computers are not viewable on the network windows you can easily connect to them by putting in their shared name lol as in \\server\sharedname .....heh, I tried alot of other ways and just happened to run into that by mistake. Yay, my problem is solved! Thank you all though.

That's because NetBIOS brodacasts over the local subnet to get machine names and populate the browser window. If you can live with using \\server\share then do so as it's more efficient, but if you really MUST have a network neighborhood you'll need a WINS server at one or both sites.

AD in theory does away with WINS and the browser so you might be better off without.
