MS Win2k server not routing

Hi,

I have a Netware 5 network, single server. All latest patches.

2 ethernet cards in the server, 2 seperate physical LANs, the Server routes across the two networks.

10.230.98.0 <---> 10.230.99.0, server cards are 10.230.98.1 and 10.230.99.1

On Net 98, there is an IBM AIX server and several workstations. We recently added a Win2K server to Net 98.

On Net 99 are the remainder of the workstations. All workstations on both LANs can log in to the Novell and the AIX server. This has been working for a couple years.

The workstations on Net 99 cannot see or login to the Win2K Server. Workstations on Net 98 have no problem.

Win2K server has a static IP address on Net 98. We have added both 98.1 and 99.1 to the default gateway list in the Win2k server, still cannot see the Win2k server from Net 99. We have the Microsoft client and Netware client loaded on all workstations, and made the MS Workgroup the same on all MS workstations and the Server.

What am I missing to get the Microsoft network to use the Novell server to route TCP/IP?

Thanks,
Paul Ray

Wrong forum for this issue, it's not a problem with your NetWare box. It sounds more like your Windows box is miss-configured.

Now, unless they have done something freaky with IP that I don't know about, you can't have two default gateways function at the same time. Now Novell gives you the ability to enter in a seond default gateway, but that second default gateway is made for fail over, not redundancy. M$ also gives you the abilty to add a second default gateway, but I wold say it to is for fail over, not redundancy. The first has to time out before the second will be used.

To get your windows box to run right, you still need to look at your default gateway. With one subnet working right, and the other not working right, it just sounds like a gateway issue. Look at the default gateway your AIX and NetWare box use, and make it the ONLY default gateway for your Windows box. That should correct your problem. Brent Schmidt CNE,Network + [atom]

Brent,

You are right, the problem is in the Windows setup. I posted on information from users. When I arrived and checked, found that I could ping and tracert between the workstations and the servers. Nothing wrong with the Novell.

We can even map drives to the server shared directories, using the \\10.230.98.5\ShareDir format.

Still cannot see either workstations or the server across the Novell/router. Will re-post in the W2k server forum.

Thanks Paul Ray
