Hi,

My colleague created a project and is currently working on it. I'm trying to work on some of the files in the project but when I click on the his project file on our share it says someones already working on it.

What is the best way to get around this?

Thanks,

Chris.

You should each have a local copy of the project.

In 'master' mode, any edits that you save are both saved locally and also saved to the central 'master' web. In this scenario, the local 'copy' would seem to be a waste of space - and you would want to share the copy amongst the team. This is wrong, as VI does not work like this.

In 'local' mode, edits are only made to the local copy. In this way you can isolate changes made by different people, and only when your edits are complete should you re-syncronise the local copy with the master version.

For the SECOND developer, they should create a NEW web - specifying a path to their own PC. But then they should select the WebServer and Web Name of the existing 'master' web. This creates the project files on the local PC, but with the content of the central master web.
