Hi,

I've been developing in Microsoft SQL server for a few years now and am pretty confident in my knowledge of most areas of MS SQL. I've recently started a new role where I'm still mostly doing MS-SQL but there is a support element using some sybase databases too. I'm comfortable enough debugging most of the T-SQL code in sybase because it is so similar to MS-SQL, but I'm not too familiar with the general enviroment of sybase - like does it have scheduled jobs, DTS etc... - and I'm looking for a useful book of some sort to show me the differences between MS and sybase.
I don't suppose anyone could recommend any publications could they? Sort of a "sybase for MS-SQL developers" or equivalent type book.
I'm keen to really get into sybase, MS-SQL is good but I've been stuck doing the same thing for too long and need a change.

Cheers
J

J,

A change is as good as anything else. Of my memory the most recent Sybase book is:

"Sybase Transact SQL Guidelines Best Practices" by Mich Talebzadeh et. al, published by Sybase, ISBN 0975969307. It was published in August 2004 and covers most recent versions of Sybase. Anyway have a look at the Amazon reviews for this book. You may find it useful.

Good luck

Check out Good couple of books available from Rob -
including a smashing quick reference guide

Download all the reference manuals from Sybase too.
(as if you couldn't guess!)

I recently did some MS-SQL work and found MS-SQL simply
to be 'Sybase' with a nice gui...

You'll probably find you can do most things in Sybase you can with MS-SQL but probably have to type the commands in rather than have a nice wizard/gui....

Thats where the quick ref guide comes in!!
