I have an SQL 2005 server on 2003 server sp2. I have an issue with backing up my transaction logs. Only some of the databases will backup the logs. They were all working at one time not to long ago and I don't think I made any changes. The full database backups are working fine.

I have a maintenance plan that backs them up to another server via UNC path name. There is one thing that I found abnormal though. When I configure the plan to backup all the databases and save it. When I go back into the plan, the database selection field states "select databases" rather than having "all databases" selected like I configured prior.

Do I need the transaction log backups if I am doing a full backup?

Yes, especially if the recovery model is set to Full, or Bulk Logged.

Are you getting any error messages when you attempt to backup the transaction logs?

Double check the recovery mode for the databases that are failing the transaction log backups. While they may have been set to Full at one time, it's possible someone or something changed them to Simple mode.
