Apparently I'm not the only one having this problem. Can't get past it no matter what I do. Tried removing and reinstalling Net framework 2.0 but can't remove it. Tried repairing it but that fails everytime too. Tried several programs designed to remove and reinstall it, no luck. Can't get any other updates until I get past KB922770. (Dell Dimension 4100, p3) Researched all over the net and all I get is "remove it and reinstall". If only it was that easy.

Anybody have the REAL solution???

What was the error message when you tried? Was it this?
"The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that this source exists and that you can access it."

If you tried with a fresh download of Framework 2.0 redistributable what was the error message that was returned?

Do you have Windows Installer 3.1 installed? It would help if you did, (you must have at least Installer 3.0 installed to install Framework 2.0):
Have you followed the steps in this MS KB article?
When you try to install the security update that security bulletin MS06-033 describes (917283) on a computer that is running the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0, the computer may stop responding or you may receive the following error code: 0x643 - Applies to update KB922770 also.

Have you submitted the problem using the automated Windows Update data collection tool?

Thanks BC, You're the first one to give me any REAL starting point. I'm just an ignorant user <grin> but I'll do some research on all of that when I have time to dive back into it and I'll let you know.

Have a look at the "Known issues" in this article.
