MS Project Server 2002 1

We are looking to stand up MS Project Server 2002 for our Enterprise and would like to hear how it went in your organization. We want to do it right the first time.

Is there any good training available for standing up the project server? At one time we saw that Franklin Covey had a Sys Admin training class on standing up the Project server, but it is not available.

Any good sources or ideas?

Excellent question! There are a number of things to consider with running Project Server 2002. First of all, you MUST run IIS on the machine that will have Project Server installed. This can present firewall issues and the like, if you are going to have it accessable via something other than your corporate intranet (which is why most people use it.)
You will need to have Win2000 Server, or better.
You also need to really understand the features that Project 2002 server will deliver. Just like Word, or Excel, how you set up your projects, and how you have project server manage them is unique to your usage, so it's hard to give more than general advise in this arena. If you don't have a system or network administrator on full time as well, I'd suggest you closely examine whether you really need Project Server. You may be just as well off managing multiple PMs by having a common directory structure, and Active Directory installed, and leverage the advantages there. If you've got a group of 2 to 3 PMs, with projects less that 6 months on average, I'd suggest using this method, as it is a strong viable alternative, and costs less.
If however, you still want to use PS2002, I'd suggest "The Project 2002 Bible". It has been infinetly useful to me in leveraging Project 2002, and Project Server 2002.
