I am new to Microsoft Project and trying to understand how to set up a task with a "floating" duration that has a start date based on the end of one task and an end date that is based on the start date of another task. This is done to show the duration "task" between two tasks with fixed dates.
For example, I have a task that is scheduled to end on exactly 6/29/08. I have another task that is scheduled independently to begin on 8/6/08. I would like to show a line-item task between these two that shows the duration between the two tasks, with a start date of 6/30/08 and an end date of 8/5/08. The two tasks (the end date of task 1 and the start date of task 2) can change, and I would like the duration task between the two to automatically adjust based on the changing dates of the two tasks.
I can't seem to get the predecessors/successors to work correctly to have a non-fixed duration or to automatically adjust the duration based on the two tasks. Is there any way to do this?
Thanks for any help you can provide. I greatly appreciate it.
