MS PROJECT 2013 GROUPING BY RESOURCE NAMES

Hi,

I have created a view in MS Project 2013 that shows tasks grouped by Resource Name (via Views / Group By) similar to the standard 'Resource' Group By option. This works fine as long as there is only one Resource Name in the Resource Name column.

However, if there are multiple names in the Resource Name column, it creates a new grouping for each Resource Name combination in the view as opposed to putting each task into its respective Resource Name grouping.

For example, if Task 1 had Jon, Task 2 had Jon & Jack, and Task 3 had Jon, Jack, Jane, I would like to group by each Resource Name, so it shows a group for 'Jon' with tasks 1,2,3. A group for 'Jack' with tasks 2 and 3. A group for 'Jane' with task 3.

Instead I can only get it to show a view where the groups are (Group 1) 'Jon' with task 1 (Group 2)'Jon & Jack' with task 2 and (Group 3) 'Jon, Jack, Jane' with task 3.

Does anybody know how to arrange the grouping so all tasks for a Resource Name are grouped under that Resource Name, even where they appear as one of multiple names against the task please?

I have had a look at the Resource Reports but none seem to be what I am looking for.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

Jon.

Hi Jon,

Does the Resource Usage view not show you what you need? You can add things like Start, Finish, Work etc. to the view. Tell us more about what you need - it's possible a group on the Task Usage view (grouping by assignments) will show you closer.

Hi Julie,

Thanks for getting back to me. The Resource Usage view does cover a good part of the requirement, in particular the grouping of the items by individual resource. But I also wanted to show with the project hierarchy maintained and a formatted Gantt view with milestones to the right. In the end I have settled for just applying a view with a 'Contains Resource Name' filter on it. The downside to this is you can only show one resource at a time with this filter applied.

Hi Twenny02,
I'm glad the filtered Gantt works for you. The problem is you want resource and task data. I'm afraid Project shows Tasks and assignments or Resources and assignments. You can create custom filters with an "or" condition to pull multiple resource assignments in the Gantt chart or consider filtering by Resource Group.
