Can you help - I am a new(ish) user to MS Project - I used it in anger about 5 years ago then stopped when I gave up project management work. I have forgotten more than I learned it would appear!

I hid my Start and Finish columns so that I could print a view for a manager that didn't require that information. Super. Now I have gone back to my project and want them back (for a manager that DOES require that info to be printed - and for me as I'm working with it) but I can't find them in the column list!

I have tried Insert column, but the list that comes back does not seem to contain these fields. I have looked in the help for the definitions of all of the fields in the list offered, and none of them is the original Start and Finish columns I hid.

I know the information is still there, obviously, as it's held within each task when I double click it, and is also displayed on the Gantt chart.

Help! What am I doing wrong? All advice appreciated. Many thanks in anticipation.

Hi PDQBach

Currently in Gantt Chart view...

When you click on "View" look down the list of items until you see "Table: xxxxx". What replaces "xxxxx"?

Then the display that you get when you attempt to insert a column should have shown those fields.

Try again:
View > Gantt
Insert > Column

In the Column Definition look at the field "Field Name" and look for "Start" and "Finish".

If you can't find them then tell me the names of the first two fields in the list.

Thank you so much for all your help - I have copied and pasted the plan and they are back in the list, following your instructions.

The original plan they are still missing from. I can only presume that I deleted, rather than hid, them?

Thank you again very much for your time and help!

I don't think they can be deleted -- I'd be interested in seeing the original file if you still have it. I have a h0tmail account named pdqbach4100 and you could send it to me there. Glad things are working for you now.
