ComputerWorld is reporting that MS10-015 (KB977165) may cause the Blue Screen Of Death.

I have two PCs with this problem now while others did not have the problem.

Thanks for that. We've rolled it out to 200 XP SP2 & 3 desktops now and no problems so far. WSUS will be patching another 300 today.

From what I have been reading, this is a problem causing both Xp & Vista machines not to boot. I have had two in two days but I was lucky and did a repair install on both, took a while with all the updates, now all is well. Seems the computers in question may not have been fully protected as far as virus, adware and spyware goes and that is what causes the problem.

Hello;thanks for the info. I have 3 Xp Pro Sp2 machines, all updated on 2-12-10 no problems with any of them.Do we leave this alone or what? need for concern if all is working ok?

Wow - doing a repair install seems to be unnecessary if you read the links in the first post. Sorry for anyone that went through that.

Has anyone identified the EXACT update that is the culprit??

This should be good for business.

The last XP no boot situation I saw last week had an infection in ATAPI.sys. The customer stated that she allowed the MS updates to install and then..... no boot, but not a blue screen.

Don't know if that was a totally separate issue, but it did happen immediately after those batch of updates installed.

Interesting..........................

Wow - my billable hours should increase if I have to format more PCs and start over. The down side is that that's pretty boring.

[red]Another Update:[/red] Microsoft is preparing to release a rootkit detector prior to re-releasing their patch.
