I need to be able to choose which connection to use when sending/receiving in MS Outlook. The laptop is in use with broadband in one location and dialup when in another location.
This is no problem with OUTLOOK EXPRESS as one has a choice as to what to use in the 'dialup connection' box.
There is no such choice in OUTLOOK. Can anyone help? The OUTLOOK version is one that came with MS Office 2000. IE6 also gives the choice of connection to be used.

Hi pilihp

Do the following steps

In outlook

Go to Tools > Options > Mail Setup > Email accounts > Next > Change > More Settings

Select When starting "Manually control connection State" and select "Choose connection type when starting"

Now go to the Connection Tab (Same screen) and select "Connect using Internet Explorer's or a 3rd party dialer"

Click ok for 10 million times.

When you start outlook now when working offline, it will prompt you to connect (Select when you're on LAN) and work offline when you want to dial up. When you select Work offline and you click send/receive, it should use the current dialup connection.

Hope this helps

Many thanks Max but I think we have different versions of OUTLOOK. My Options window has the tabs: Preferences, Mail Delivery, Mail Format, Spelling, Security, Other.
None of these tabs lead to the options that you describe although their are similarities. I have tried every sort of settings combination without sucess.
Perhaps I should try to get your OUTLOOK version - which is it? Mine is OUTLOOK 2000 SR-1 (9.0.0.3821)

Hi pilihp

I'm using Outlook Xp. But you the settings are the same, you just start off from a different point.

In stead of going to Tools Options in Outlook, go to your windows control panel, go to Mail and then follow the steps from there. Hope it helps.

Cheers

What about Internt Option-Connections, dial when network not present. Not sure if this would work, but maybe.

Max, this doesn't work either as clicking Mail in Control panel is exactly the same as Tools > Accounts etc, etc in OUTLOOK. Your OUTLOOK XP version must be different from mine; I shall have to get it.
Thanks, Philip

venmaz, take it you are referring to settings in IE6. No this makes no difference; thanks anyway.

Max, just to let you and others know that having obtained OUTLOOK 2003 I am now able to configure my two connections and to manipulate them in a logical way using the new facility 'Send/Receive Groups'.
Thanks very much for your input, since without it I would not have realised that a newer version could incorporate such a major development.
