MS Outlook 2003 line spacing problem

Hi, when I create a new e-mail in outlook 2003 my line spacing setting are incorrect. When I change the settings it will work but it does not save the settings. It switches back to automatic and the automatic setting creates dubble spacings between my lines and not single spacings. Its is very frustrating to go and change settings each time I create a new mail. Please if anyone could help.
