MS Outlook 2003 data file and settings 1

Hi all,
I had this mess with my outlook installation. It was upgraded more than once from the previous versions of outlook. Additionally this versiones were localized ones. Now, outlook shows two data folders (in tree view) while connected to only one. I've tried to fix it in several ways. Not succeeded.
Now I want to completly remove outlook and all its settings and reinstal it. Alas some settings still remains in system and newly installed outlook has the same drawback - doubled tree view reference to its data file.

I were searching files on hard drive and registry, trying to localize strings that may point me where this settings are keept.

Can anyone help me? At this point I'd better reinstall outlook and reset its settings rather than try to fix it.

It refers to the Microsoft Cleanup Utility, which should completely remove Outlook.

OK - I've uninstall (again) whole MS Office 2003 using this utility and install again. Alas - this did nothing to my problem

I guess that figuring out where Outlook is keeping info about its datafile location is the only way - at least at this point thats is what I'm thinking.

Any other sugestions are welcome

first, check the menu "file->data file management" and see if there are two "personal folders" entries - if there are, then one of those two is where the extra tree is coming from. you will have to experiment by removing one or the other to see if its the problem one. if you just totally want to start from scratch:


in windows2000/xp, the user-specific settings/customizations will be in:
c:\documents and setttings\<username>\local settings\application data\microsoft\outlook

-and-
c:\documents and setttings\<username>\application data\microsoft\outlook

you can remove the contents of the "outlook" folders in these paths (EXCEPT FOR: any *.PST or *.PAB files- leave those!)and outlook will recreate them on next run.

also dont forget to go to control panel->mail -- then click "show profiles" -> note any services there and their settings (such as exchange server)by viewing the properties of the services. make sure you note down the properties for restoring them later. Delete all the profiles. create a new profile with a different name then before (i.e. NewOutlook as opposed to default or ms exchange settings, etc).

Then run outlook - it will create a new profile based on the info you enter during the wizard. After profile is created, outlook should run as before, but with the extra tree missing. If you had a personal folders file (PST) add it back as shown in the original MAPI profile (which you recorded settings of earlier).
