MS Outlook 2003 backup

I have MS Outlook 2003 and back up my Outlook files pior to reloading my hard drive.
Problem, when trying to restore, the backup software says it, the backup, is open and I can import items into my PST. I cannot seem to fine any info.
Any ideas?

Not sure how you are trying to do this but just go to file - open file - outlook file (or something similar - this will then open the pst separately so you can then import the data.

Or did I miss something?

P.S. I presume that you have checked that you have permission to open it and the ntfs permissions haven't been copied across try taking ownership of the file any way.
