I added 3 other user accounts to allow 4 family members to share a laptop - Windows XP, running Office 97. But only the first (original) user has access to Office. If anyone else logs on, it isn't there!

Any ideas how to make it available to everyone?

I'm stumped!

Is office just not showing in the start menu? You probably just need to add the shortcuts to the start menu. Or if you prefer, create a shortcut on the user's desktop.

Cheers.

NO, MS OFFICE does not show anywhere on the computer. Explorer or Programs.

It's been a long time since I installed Office 97 but when you installed it did you check the option to make it available for "all users of this computer". I think the option shows up somewhere in the installation process.

Since it works for one user then the program is obviously installed. The default location (for Office 2003) is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office. It should be something similar to that for Office 97.

Also, make sure that the users who can't access it have the correct permissions, shares, etc. set.

Cheers.

You need to be logged onto the computer as an administrator, then install Office 97. If you install it logged in as a user, only that user account will see Office.

That makes sense. I will reinstall it logged in as the administrator. I don't remember ever seeing a dialog box about making it available to all users though.

Thanks for the tips!

That dialog is dependant on the program being written that way (and I'm sure Office 97 was not). For clarity, tf1 is referring to the account named [/b]Administrator[/b], not a regular user account with administrative privledges. If this is XP Home, the Administrator is only available from Safe Mode.

Thanks, I forgot that there is a difference between being the administrator and having administrative privledges!
