Preface: I'm at work and can't access google for this.

I leave my mac on 24/7 (thunderstorms excepted) and have a slow-ish broadband connection via the telephone line.

If I leave Excel or Word running overnight, I often find a message in the morning warning me that the licence has been exceeded and that (my name) is already running the software.

Is this due to the application "phoning home" in conjunction with my ISP having a nightly 'break'? What could be related is that ichat always reports an aol disconnect over midnight when I leave it logged into my aim account.

Should I just run little snitch to block extraneous network traffic from applications other than mail & browsers?

Where did you acquire your license?
Has your copy of Mac:Office been installed multiple times?

Licence from MS; installed only the once. Message refers to the same user name as the log-on. Think I may have to go the Little Snitch route to avoid the issue of unsaved work being unavoidably lost.
