"First, check to see if you are running a click to run version
Ensure that you are running the "Click-To-Run" version. Go to help panel of any working app: File tab / Help command and look at the Right side of the Backstage panel. It should say "Product Activated" for MSI install or "Click-to-Run Product Updates" for CTR installation.

If you are, check you network connection.
Either way, try running the Repair Utility:
Repair or Uninstall Office 2010 -
Also uninstall Office Trial editions and any other Office-related programs such as "Office Activation Assistant" and any Office Viewer programs from the Programs applet in Control Panel. But you don't have to uninstall Office Starter if you have it. Then make sure to reboot after completing repair or uninstall."
