MS Office 2003 Word - Copy/Paste - Show/Hide ? 1

Copied a section of text from one word doc and paste the selected text in another document the section of text pasted is not displayed if the Show/Hide is clicked to show the marks, the text is displayed, if the Show/Hide is clicked again to hide the marks, the text is also hiden, the text is only visible when Show/Hide marks are displayed.

What is the cause?
What is the fix?
