MS Exchange Server 5.5 and POP e-mail connector

I have installed the pop e-mail connector on my Exchange Server 5.5. I can get the connector to get incoming pop e-mail but when I try to send internet e-mail, it keeps getting returned with the message, "Unable to reach the recipient".

I'm sure it is something in my settings but not sure what to look for? I use a dial-up connection, and it is connecting to my ISP.

I have my own domain name (in this example I'll use abc.com. Under that domain, I have several mailboxes set up that are pop mailboxes. I know the pop settings (i.e. POP3.abc.com and smtp.abc.com). I guess I'm not understanding how to configure everything (i.e. pop connector, Internet Mail Connector, and Small Business Server 4.5 wizard)

After I've set up the pop settings in the pop connector, I go to "recipients" and add an SMTP e-mail address, i.e. david@abc.com.

I have pulled my hair out for hours with this. Can anyone please help with this. Maybe some detailed directions? Or possible a web site address that gives really good step-by-step directions.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

David

Would it not be advisable to allow Exchange to send the mail, and the POP3 connector to receive it? We use EFS here (great program) and have no troubles running it that way.

It would not only be advisable, it's the only way. POP3 is strictly for receiving. You need SMTP to send.
