I have an Exchange 5.5 server, SP4 running on an NT4 network. All clients connect using Outlook98 and Win98, no problems until today. I installed 128mb RAM, taking the total upto 256mb, rebooted and found no clients could access the server. The Exchange server did log onto the network and it's possible to browse it. Also possible to access Exchange Administrator on the server.

I've stopped and re-started all Exchange related services but without any luck, also re-booted the server several times and even removed the new RAM. At one point I did have a message saying the server was low on system resources but that disapeared after a reboot.

I'd be very grateful if anyone could identify the problem and suggest a fix.

Thanks

Paul

Check hard disk space, particularly on the drive with the page file.

Check event viewer for the bootup procedure and read the errors.

Are all the services started that are listed as automatic? Have you changed any system passwords recently that could be affecting it at this reboot?

Can the clients ping the server? If they can it is Exchange, if not it is NT.

Hi all - problem resolved. Cause was my own stupidity - two NIC's in the Exchange Server and I'd plugged both the patch cable and router connection into the same NIC. So obvious in hindsight............
