What is the error message you get?
How are you (trying to) creating these extra links?
Are you using natural language formulas, i.e. =[COLUMN/ROW NAME] or explicit formulas, i.e.=[CELL REF]
If you are using natural language formulas, then there is a limit of 65,500 natural language formulas per workshee (although from what you are saying, you have not reached this limit).
