I'd like to find a way to lock the borders of a cell, so that when the contents of a cell are dragged from one cell to another, the contents are moved but the borders remain the same.

Drag 'n' Drop copys the formats as well as data.

You can use Copy 'n' Edit/Paste Special - Values.
