I have created a DTS package which imports data from an excel file into a db table. The package works just fine, but when I try to schedule this package, the job fails.
A DTS package which imports data from a text file can be scheduled without problem.
I cannot find any solution and the scheduled package does not create entries in the specified package error log file.
Have you any ideas?

Thanks

Ususally when this happens it's because the path to the excel spreadsheet is referred to using a mapped drive.

If you check your path to your spreadsheet it should be \\Servername\file\file\excelspreadsheet.xls not C:\file\file\excelspreadsheet.xls.

Let me start with 'Avoid using Excel for any type of data transfer, CSV and TXT are the best reccomended formats.'
Now let get into your issue.
The major issues as follwow during data transfer in
1.) Security, make sure the user the job schdeuled under has the previllages to the folder.
2.) Format changes, especailly in Excel, verify if there any changes in each fileds that mappped to SQL. If that excel has any format changes you need to remap the fileds. Make sure you excel is generated by an automated process others ways it will be always a troubleshooting nightmare.
3.) Verfiy the pathand get rid of spaces in lin the path.

Start with this and post back your results, then we can proceed further.

Good Luck.
