I can produce a PivotTable from the SSAS server just fine using the PivotTable interface, but it is laborious, time consuming and too hard to modify as required. I have a hand tuned MDX query that gives me exactly what I want, and it's written in keeping with the standard PivotTables seem to require; all I need to do is find a way to get the query into place.
I blithely opened a new connection to the SSAS server and expected to find, someplace, an Edit Query... dialog similar to what I get when using SQL to extract data from a relational db for a PivotTable. No joy.
A lot of googling and browsing through various texts suggests that this simply cannot be done! That seems odd to me. One false start was the OLAP Pivot Table Extension add on - it allows me to see the MDX, but not edit it.
Any other thoughts? Other places to try for assistance?
