I've got a setup in my office that looks like this

Generic Keyboard & Mouse --- KVM --- (W)
+-----(L)
+-----PS/2 -> USB Adapter---(A)

This setup has worked fine for two or three weeks.

I bought a Microsoft Ergo Keyboard 4000 which connects via usb, and I've tried connecting it in every fashion, and only the most literal works.. which is bad because I need to use the KVM...

Keyboard -- USB -> PS/2 Adapter -- PS/2 Port on KVM -- Windows Box // doesn't work
Keyboard -- USB -> PS/2 Adapter -- PS/2 Port on KVM -- PS/2 -> USB Adapter -- Windows Box // doesn't work
Keyboard -- USB -> PS/2 Adapter -- Directly into Windows Box PS/2 Port // doesn't work, but this was just an experiment
Keyboard -- USB on Windows Box - Works // works

Only the first two methods are available though because I really want to use my IOGEAR KVM.

Any thoughts?

Have you loaded & applied the MS Ergo Keyboard drivers for the win box?

Yes, I can't believe I didn't mention that, but yes I had already installed it.

I think I missed this first time around... So even if you plug up directly to the ps2 port (using the usb/ps2 adapter) on the win box...no joy...

This is the root problem, as this must work for any hope to have the KVM function. Might you have another adapter to try, just to rule this out?? I know its a long shot as other OS'es are not havimg a problem...but??

I do... at home.. but I can get it up here..

This has been frustrating so far, if its this much trouble getting it to work on a windows box (and I know its because I insist on using the kvm..) there may be no hope for the other OS's..

I use the others so infrequently, I may run dual keyboards..

Heh, I got up midpost to try that and that works... dual keyboards... I'll get ahold of the spare adapter and try it later...

This keyboard feels weird, its my first time with an ergo keyboard.. or any split keyboard for that matter..

Off topic... Do they sell keyboards anywhere in seperate pieces? like, actually split so you can put one on each side for each hand?

There were a couple in thr past but most have settled on the one moulding for cost reasons at a minimum. This is the only one that I could quickly find.

webmiget,
How were you connecting the keyboard cable from the kvm to the windows box when you were using the generic keyboard before? PS/2 or USB?

If you where using USB then you might consider going into the bios on the windows box and disable "Usb Keyboard Support" and then make your keboard connection from the PS/2 port of the windows box to the PS/2 of the kvm.

You will obviously have to do this change with the keyboard directly plugged to the windows box.

My guess is that you are losing your keyboard signal after POST with the windows box configure usb--->kvm.

Kind of like when you loose a usb mouse when booting into safe mode. Though it could be a driver issue as well.
