I don't think you can use it, unless you do so in a Stored Procedure.
A subreport can be given a value from the main report and create a rowset based on that value, so if I understand your question correctly, yes, you can use main->subreport to accomplish this.
You may be better served to demonstrate your data, and the desired output.
