Ok here's the dilemma, have a MS Cordless wheel mouse (ps/2), on a win 98 Machine, upon startup the cursor-mouse just doesnt work, ie no movement, pointer is in the middle of the screen (and yes I know this is the wrong thing to do,,,but) unplug the mouse (without shuttingdown) and plug a plain old ps/2 mouse with cord into the port, bingo we have action, without doing anything else but unplugging that and plugging the cordless receiver back into the port, bingo we have action with the cordless. I've checked the drivers, currently have MS Intellipoint loaded which is "A" ok. why wont this thing wakeup on startup?
Any ideas or solutions are much appreciated thanks folks in advance.

mazzie,
Afraid I don't have a solution for you, but you WILL do damage to your hardware if you keep hot swapping the PS2.
One thought does occur to me, it sounds like a driver problem with the PS2 port rather than the mouse. Suggest you try removing the PS2 port in device Manager and letting Windows reinstall it on restart All things are possible except skiing through a revolving door.
