I am tring to use an ms access db for a programming project(building an interface with VB). everything works great from the db owners sign on, the distribution is on a compltely different network.

When I try to open the DB, (from another sign on on my computer or on distribution network) I am given multiple warnings and errors, about not having permission to write to the database. After several attemps to "experiment" with the security settings in Access, I have not been able to correct the problem...

I tried to post this in the VB programming area, but I only received vague answers that did not solve the problem...

now I come to you the Access "gurus"...

Hi,

Before going into detail, Ive some questions:

do you have full read & write rights on the other network drives & folders?
What kind of security (and how!) do you have implemented in Access?

Hmmm...you say you experimented with Access security...
How about the workgroup information file? What was used to secure the db and what's used now?
Do you have the possibility to log on as a member of the Admins group?

And another 'little' thing: was the distribution made through a CD or another read-only media? If so, the database file may have inherited the Read-only attribute.
Locate it through Explorer, right-click the file, choose Properties and make sure Read-Only is unchecked

Some detailed description of what you expected and what you actually did would help a lot.

The network drive has read/write permissions for the people requiring access to the application...

(I figured out the read only thing from a CD...) basically I will (X)copy the app and files to the destination...

Development OS is WinXP, Deployment OS is WinNT...

Could you give me specific instruction on how to configure the DB (here or throught a link to an online reference) on how to configure the workgroups?
