For whatever reason, after I compact and repair certain databases on our LAN, I am presented with the "Password Required" prompt the next time I attempt to open the database. The database is used by others, but I have confirmed that no one is placing a password on the databases in question. To complicate the situation, there is one PC that can sometimes access the databases without getting the prompt. There is never any trouble if the database is compacted and repaired locally.
I suspect this may be a version/patch issue with the Office/OS software and/or server(s), since I have discovered build and XPclient variations on the PCs in my department. Any insight would be appreciated!
