I have recently been trying to use permissions on MS Access, and as a result have run into the following problem:

Whenever I open Access on my workstation (even to create a new db) I get a prompt for a password and user name. I have tried every possible user name and password combination I can think off to log in, but cannot do so. This means that MS Access is effectively redundant on my workstation. However, I have saved databases created on this workstation and opened them on other workstations without any problems, so it would appear that I have inadvertently locked myself out of the Access application as a whole, as opposed to any specific databases.

Can you please let me know how to solve this problem.

Thanks in advance for you help,

Jamie

I believe that information resides in the system.mdw file. Backup the current one and replace it with one from another workstation, or put the new system.mdw in another location and use the Workgroup Administrator to point to it.

Correct. You must always create a new, separate .mdw file before creating a new secure database, and write the permissions to that new .mdw file. What you have done is applied the security intended for one database, to all that you touch on your PC, by having written into your default system.mdw. JamieNC's suggestion will get you out of trouble. Newposter
