I feel that the MOUS Certification for MS Access is a joke and that anyone that knows just the basics about the program could easily pass the exam. I know because I took the test 2 weeks ago and I feel like I was cheated out of $75 bucks. The test had easy functions to do such as to create a primary key, create a relationship beteewn two tables, create a form usig the wizard, etc. I wish that Microsoft could raise the bar on some of these lame brain test so that there would be a separation between people that are proficient with the software and people that are just casual users.

I agree.
Who would want to write a function to create a primary key, create a relationship beteewn two tables etc.

Lets use the wizards, saves me from scratching my brain!

You have to remember, it is USER certification. They have analogous testing for clerical types covering MS Word, MS Powerpoint, MS Excel, etc. Office Assistants (nee secretaries) can offer these certificates to show that they will be productive very quickly -- as users, maybe even power users, but not programmers.

Anything the app does "stock," off the menus, they can do.

Make a menu? Automate a process? Not what they're about.

I think MOUS is OK, in its realm. What is needed is a way to certify that a person is good at modifying Access behavior, automating functions using VBA for Access, writing a query that does more than simple selection, etc. Of course, Microsoft really doesn't want people to do that with Access, MS wants people to use SQL Server. Maybe Access for the front end, but that's all.

Still, companies seem to want people who can make Access do what they want, without going to the level of a custom app in vb6 or vb.net or whatever, so I think there is a market for some certification between MOUS and MCDBA. The question is, will MS support that market?
