Hello,

I'd like to create a database with VB.NET to distrbute via a CD, users will need to run the application either from the CD or the desktop. Can MS ACCESS (03/08) handle 300,000 records?

Besides using a password, is there another way to protect the database?, can it be hidden in the distribution CD?

Thanks in advance

Victor

Access can handle 300,000 records. How well it handles them depends on your skill in implementing it.

I don't see how you can truly hide the database. You might change the .MDB extension to something else - that might fool them for an extra 30 seconds.

Note that Access security is easily defeated.

Security is very importasnt, Whst is an alternative database that can provide better security that I can convert my ASSESS database to?

Thanks,

Victor

You can use something like SQL Server express edition or MySQL, both of which have in built security facilities, but you won't be able to run either straight from a CD.
Other desktop databases are available but they will have the same limitations as Access.

Have you considered distribution of a .mde version?

Randy

MDE still won't stop end users accessing the data. All it means is that VBA source code and form/report designs are unavailable.

Which kind of security do you want?

Hope This Helps, PH.
