Hi All
I have a very basic question for some of you experts out there, I have a DB which tracks items used of nuts bolts etc. I have 2 tables one for stock descriptions with product codes and "starting stock level" and another table for item "quantities used" of each type. I have made a query which calculates the balance of the items to use in a report. Whilst it shows the running balance as ok for items which have registered a usage but where items have not been used it does not show the balance remaining (just an empty field)which should be the same as the "starting stock level". I appreciate this is a basic query but it's all I need since the report when on printed will be a "stock as off" report. Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

This is like a bank account, right? Starting balance is ZERO until you make a deposit. In fact, you can't make a withdrawal until you have a positive balance.

This looks like a rudimentary inventory system. You have a hardware item that has a usage amount but no starting balance: ZERO on-hand. When you have a purchase order delivered you can add the delivered quantity to the inventory for that part to put it into inventory. When you have a work order you take that quantity out of inventory. Puts and takes: Puts add, takes subtract.

So have you PUT any quantity of the part into your inventory system?

Perhaps an example would help, cuz I'm not seeing your problem.
