I have a Micros Point of Sale system running its database Micros.db in a SQL Anywhere 17 Server called sqlMICROSSERVER. I am able to view tables and field definitions using Sybase Central. For that I need to use by User Name and Password. So I know that I have the correct username and password.

When I attempt to link the tables, from the Micros.db, using the MS Access application, I get an error messages as shown below.

OBDC--call failed

[SAP][OBDC Driver][SQL Anywhere]Connection error: An error occurred during a SharedMemory connection attempt (#-832)

When I view the OBDC Data Source Administrator (32-bit) application I find that the System Data Source Name (Micros) is located in the System DSN tab.

The MS Access application is located in the same computer as the SQL Anywhere 17 application.

The MS Access settings in the Get External Data are as follows.

1. External Data; New Data Source; From Other Sources; OBDC Database
2. Select Radio button - Link the data source by creating a linked table
3. File Data Source tab - I cannot find the Data Source Name "Micros" so I select Machine Data Source Tab
4. Select Micros; The DSN is listed as a SYSTEM Type.
5. Connect to SQL Anywhere login page pops up
6. Fill in USER ID = Micros and Password = ********* (same as Sybase Central)
7. Select OK and error message as shown above pops up.

Please note: The login page shown in the MS Access application for OBDC is identical to the OBDC Data Source Administrator application's login page.

Is it possible that my error occurs in the Line #3 above (File Data Source tab)? Should I create a Data Source Name instead of selecting the Micros Data source name in the Machine Data Source tab?

I have read many posts from programmers in the forum. It is very helpful. Particularly, I find that the programmer PM Egan (pmegan) has years of experience in the problems of OBDC connections to Micros.db

Please help if you can. Thank you, Gary
