I was wondering if there is a particular way to go about making a database that is stored on a network drive available to multiple users at a time. At present, only one person can get into the database at a time. Is this a licensing issue? or is there some way to code it to make it work?
Thanks in advance,
by default everyone can open the database
Take a look at the settings in the tools menu
click Tools, Options
click Advanced TAB
make sure Shared is checked not Exclusive.

After you get several people in it OK
Make the database a .MDE
click Tools menu
Database Utilities
Make .MDE
the users will use this new file
There is previous post about this in more detail.

Does MS Access for Win 95 use MDE files? I can't find anything on it in the help file .. and there isn't a "Save as" for MDE ... only MDA and MDB.

Thanks,
It's not necessary to make an .mde, but since it compiles the programming code it may be faster and less error-prone. If you do make your file an .mde, be sure to save the copy of the original .mdb, because you can't make changes to an .mde. You have to make the changes to the original .mdb and then make a new .mde from that.
Sometimes Access defaults to "open exclusive" as an open method when it is first installed. Once a db is opened exclusively, it continues to open in that mode every time, until fixed by the The Tools/Options/Advanced/Shared method DougP gives above.

do you mean Access '95
Windows '95 does not matter
Open your Access click Help
click About
it will tell you which version it is
If you have the Access '95 version
It would be best to upgrade it
the upgrade as $99.00 or so for Access 2000
Access '97 is no longer available.

PS I'm not sure if Access '95 has MDE I don't think it does but it's been so long ago.

I asked my boss if we could possibly upgrade (I just started here in November) but he said that we have to wait until the LAN unit does a global upgrade. Guess that's what happens when you work for a state dept. :)

And, no, I don't think that Access 7.0 has .MDE's ... thanks for the help though. I really appreciate it. And I'll for sure be pushing for an upgrade here ASAP.. :)
