Hi all,
I am in the process of converting all my access 97 databases to access XP and I have come across a situation were there was no need to convert the database to XP. That same database I can open it in 97 and XP at the same time. Would anyone know why this is happening and I do not have to convert to XP? Is this a glitch or a feature? How can I program future databases to open in both versions of access? This is kind of an URGENT matter so any and all info would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks again

you can open a 97 in 2002, but you can not modify it's design (add remove data only, no new forms, controls, tables, queries, modules...). this is meant to allow people to keep using their 97 databases while they switch over to 2002 without forcing an across the board upgrade by requiring an immediate conversion of the file format. you'll only have to convert the file when you wish to make changes to it in 2002 or add functionality only available in the more recent version of access. just keep in mind that when you do this you will no longer be able to open it in any way in access 97, so keep your users in mind. (also, make copies and convert those instead of the original, because more errors - some serious - can occur in the conversion process than microsoft would have you beleive. after all, access is a huge piece of software, so even an experienced giant like ms will end up leaving some bugs behind, especially in the conversion process, which is subject to the quirks of both 97 and 2002 as it has to work with both of them)
