I have just received a Spreadsheet in wwhich all numbers have been converted to text after being emailed. I can selct each cell and convert it back to a number but this is too slow. If I select a number of cells at a time and try it it does not work. I have a copy of XP where I have managed to do it but the problem is that my colleague has around 50 spreadsheets with the same problem and he is using MS97 and doesn't want to email them to me. Is there a reason why this has happened and how to rectify it.

Thanks Lamaar75@hotmail.com

Have you tried zipping the files before you e-mail them...

also, have you tried selecting the entire sheet, then formating as general?

Try this. In a cell outside off the data, enter the number 1. Select and copy the cell, highlight the range of "text" numbers and go to edit, paste special, under operator, choose multiply. This will multiply the range by 1 and force excel to re-evaluate them as numbers. Should do the trick.
