is anyone using MPLS in lue of frame for their VoIP BCMs? We are running into configuration issues. AT&T claims we should not be mixing frame with ATM lines. They are recommending MPLS. any thoughts?

ATT - the mother of telecom:)
I've not. to tell the truth, dont know if we have.

MPLS - is a 'switching' or 'forwarding' mechanism - that is transparent to the user. thats how interfaces are designed.
Earlier ATM used to be cool thing within the cloud, now with migration to IP, MPLS is taking its place

So i dont know what ATT means when they recommend MPLS. Try talking to someone technical - that might help

Please post what ATT explain so we can all know

MPLS in the UK is as follows.

You get two versions of MPLS in the UK MPLS 8 and MPLS 9.

The MPLS is for linking multiple sites to a central site in a HUB and Spoke configuaration. The sites generally are within 5 miles of each other. The network provider will supply you with a pair of wires that run from each site to the local loop in the exchange and then to your central site. The copper is leased by the customer and a router is connected on each end running the GHSDL protocol providing bandwidth from 2-40 meg. This gives the customer a cost effect dedicated link with very few hops and the ability to deploy QOS accross the network.I am guessing that MPLS is the same in the US.I have used this many times for linking sites within 5-10 miles of each other. I am not sure what distance limitations are in the US, but the way it works is simple the further the distance, the less amount of bandwidth.

If MPLS is something different in the US then you have learnt something about the UK.
