Is it possible to import a mp3 into a scene and be able to start and stop that track where ever you wanted to.Say for instance I only want to use a build up from a drum beat and stop it before the vocals kick in.And the build up is in the middle of the track?Does this question make sense to you guys?I hope so.
thanks in advance

You can start by asking all of your questions in the same thread! Much easier for us!

MP3s

From the help files:

Importing Sounds

You use the File > Import command to bring WAV (Windows only), AIFF (Macintosh only), or MP3 (either platform) sounds into Flash, just as you would import any other file type.

If you have QuickTime 4 or later installed on your system, you can import these additional sound file formats:

Sound Designer II (Macintosh only)
Sound Only QuickTime Movies (Windows or Macintosh)
Sun AU (Windows or Macintosh)
System 7 Sounds (Macintosh only)
WAV (Windows or Macintosh)

As for the second part of your question... IMHO, it would be easier to edit (in another application) your sound and only import what you need in Flash.

Anyway... You can start with a little reading -> Help -> What's new... -> Adding Sound. And then...

For an interactive introduction to using sound in Flash, choose Help > Lessons > Sound.

After your done with the lessons... you can go on to the tutorial... Also in Help!

You can finish by letting me know this reply was helpfull to you!

old i'm sorry if i sound stupid to you but the answer i needed was the second one.i wanted to know if you could edit the track inside flash.guess not.like i said i'm very new to all this but learning at a very rapid pace.what would be the other program used to edit the mp3 and cut out what i need.sorry about the three threads, once again all still very new to me.and the link to the pull down was cool but not the one i was looking for(or maybe it is i just need a little more to go along with it).when the mouse rolls over the pull here for menu tab,i wan't the user to actually have to drag the menu out from it's place.revealing the buttons.when the mouse is released the menu stays out untill it has been dragged back in.

THE KEY IS TO DRAG THE TAB OVER FROM IT'S DORMANT STAGE
NOT CLICK THE TAB

once again thanks for your patience
(and i have read most of the help files and tutorials but some things are stll a little confusing)

Don't worry about finding all of this being "a bit confusing"! I've been at it for over a year, and still get lost!
I haven't even bothered to really look into sound yet... manipulating the pictures is already not an easy task! As for sound, I could be wrong, but don't really think you can edit it in Flash. You could always put a stop before lyrics jump in, but as far as I know and have experienced up until now, that would be about it.

I'm an editor by trade, so I have a lot of applications that can edit waves (Premiere, Goldwave...), and I have been using those for the small sound work I have done. BTW, don't know if you can edit MP3s... you might have to reconvert them to waves! But I could be wrong... I'm so old!

Take care! And don't hesitate if you have other questions...
Somebody else, if not me again, may have an aswer for you!

What kind of machine do you use, a pc or mac? Also, do you want to stop the track and restart it, stop it, or loop it? There are many software programs available to help you do this (I use a pc, as do most of my clients, which comes in rather handy) and so I know primarily about pc based software for audio (which I've been doing for about 5+ years). I recommend Cool Edit or SonicFoundry sound forge (I find Cool Edit to be better), but if you use a mac I've heard great things about a program called Peak (I think that's it). None of them are digidesign, but none of them are overpriced, either, so check them out. They can help you select parts of waves and then separate them out, so you end up with only what you want. I'm sure it sounds like a mess, but it's just another aspect of what it takes to become "mutli"media and not just "web." Any more questions drop a line.
